Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) – AWS Migration Engineer
Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to lead and support on‑premises to AWS cloud migrations for Leading Global Company, with a strong focus on lift‑and‑shift migration of application servers, automation, and operational readiness. The role emphasizes migrating workloads with minimal disruption while enabling monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and reliability controls in AWS.
Key Responsibilities
On‑Prem to AWS Migration (Primary Focus)
- Lead and execute on‑premises to AWS migration of application servers and supporting infrastructure
- Perform lift‑and‑shift (rehost) migrations with minimal application changes
- Assess existing onprem workloads and map them to AWS services
- Plan and execute migration waves, cutover activities, and rollback strategies
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, network, and security teams during migration
Migration Automation & Tooling
- Automate server and application migrations using scripting and tooling
- Support automation for:
- Instance provisioning
- AMI creation and replication
- Configuration validation post‑migration
- Develop scripts using Python and Bash to reduce manual migration effort
- Support repeatable and scalable migration processes
AWS Infrastructure & App Server Enablement
- Deploy and manage application servers on AWS (EC2‑based workloads)
- Configure compute, storage, and networking required for migrated workloads
- Support integration with AWS services such as EC2, EBS, EFS, S3, IAM, VPC, ALB/NLB
- Ensure migrated workloads meet performance, availability, and security requirements
Monitoring & Observability
- Enable and configure monitoring and alerting migrated workloads
- Implement AWS native monitoring using CloudWatch metrics, logs, and alarms
- Integrate with enterprise monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK – where applicable)
- Ensure application and infrastructure visibility post‑migration
Backup, DR & Resiliency
- Configure backup strategies for migrated workloads using AWS services
- Support disaster recovery (DR) setup and testing for AWS environments
- Execute and validate DR drills and recovery tests
- Ensure RTO and RPO objectives are met for migrated systems
Configuration & Reliability Enablement
- Ensure server configurations are consistent post‑migration
- Support configuration management using Ansible, Cloud‑Init, or AWS SSM
- Perform post‑migration validation, stabilization, and tuning
- Participate in incident troubleshooting related to migrated workloads
Security & Compliance (Financial Services)
- Implement security controls including IAM roles, security groups, encryption
- Ensure migrated workloads comply with CLIENT security and audit standards
- Work with security teams during risk reviews and compliance checks
Required Skills
Mandatory
- Strong experience in on‑prem to AWS migration
- Hands‑on AWS experience (EC2, VPC, IAM, EBS, S3, CloudWatch)
- Experience with lift‑and‑shift / rehost migrations
- Strong Linux system administration
- Scripting skills: Python and Bash
SRE / Operations Tooling
- Monitoring: CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK (hands‑on preferred)
- Configuration management: Ansible / AWS SSM
- Backup and DR concepts and execution
- Incident and operational support experience
Good to Have
- Financial Services / CLIENT domain experience
- AWS Migration tools exposure (DMS, Application Migration Service – nice to have)
- Experience supporting large‑scale enterprise migrations
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect / SysOps / DevOps Engineer)
Soft Skills
- Strong coordination across infra, app, and security teams
- Calm and methodical approach during migrations and cutovers
- Clear documentation and communication
- Ownership mindset for migration and production stability
- Program objectives & success criteria
