Role Summary

The Staff Database Administrator (DB2) will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical DB2 LUW RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and sustainment of all elements of DB2 LUW, ensuring its operational readiness (security, health and performance), executing data loads, and performing DB2 SQL PL finetuning and production deployments in support of multiple development teams. The databases support an enterprise suite of applications and reporting tools. Must be capable of working independently and collaboratively.

Core Duties/Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Manage DB2 LUW databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
• Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
• Independently analyse, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
• Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
• Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
• Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems (upon request).
• Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
• Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to peers and team members.
• Deploy, configure and manage RDBMS instances to support lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
• Monitor RDBMS systems health, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
• Monitor database backups and maintenance jobs.
• Provide regular database analysis covering performance and best practice.

The role is based in any Equiniti India office working in UK hours with occasional shift work in US hours.  There may also be a requirement to participate in a call out rota, and for completing some activities outside of business hours where they may be service affecting.  Home working is an option.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following experience, skills and behaviours:

• 10+ years IBM DB2 LUW Administration experience required
• Strong experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
• Strong experience with backups, restores and recovery models
• Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for DB2 LUW
• Strong experience working with SUSE and RHEL Linux servers
• Strong experience working with Linux Bash scripts
• Strong experience working with DB2 SQL and stored procedures
• Strong experience working with DB2 triggers
• Experience working with DB2 Federated databases
• A working knowledge of Spotlight monitor
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Flexible, team player, “get-it-done” personality
• Ability to organize and plan work independently
• Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams
• Experience with SQL Server a plus 
• Experience with Autosys Workload Automation a plus
• Relevant IBM DB2 certifications a plus
• Experience with AWS Cloud a plus 
• Relevant AWS certification a plus
• Working knowledge of Toad for DB2 a plus
