Job Description Summary:

As a Systems Engineer at Rocket Software, you are part of a global, fast-paced IT organization with a primary mission to provide world-class service to software development labs and internal departments ensuring our employees can perform at the highest level. We are seeking a detail-oriented Unix/Linux Systems Engineer to support our server operation lifecycle.
You will have a strong background in supporting and maintaining Unix/Linux server environments. You will identify, analyze, and resolve system issues and report on deficiencies in configuration, process, and documentation as well as develop and recommend corrective actions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer, monitor, and troubleshooting Unix/Linux based systems (e.g., HP, AIX, RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE etc.)
  • Perform regular system maintenance, updates, and patch management.
  • Maintain system security, user access controls, and data protection strategies.
  • Support backup and disaster recovery solutions and ensure data integrity.
  • Monitor system performance and provide capacity planning recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and coordinate with cross-functional teams when necessary.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date documentation for infrastructure systems and procedures.
  • Participate in on-call support rotations and handle incident escalation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand application requirements, develop, implement, and maintain scalable and secure solutions that meet the business needs.
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems and data and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Perform day-to-day system administration and tasks for assigned systems.
  • Provide timely problem resolution, incident management, and root cause analysis.
  • Perform duties following all company standards regarding engagement, change management, and escalations.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required.
  • Develop automations for monitoring, performance optimization, availability, and security of Rocket systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of systems administration and operations experience supporting various Unix/Linux server operating systems.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in IT operations, with a strong focus on Linux systems and VMware/Nutanix based systems
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; desire and ability to document configurations in support of a larger team.
  • Good interpersonal skills with a strong focus on listening and questioning to derive the best solutions.
  • Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance.
  • Ability to collaborate with business partners across the organization and within IT
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to present ideas and concepts in a team environment that values data-driven decisions.
  • Understanding other IT system technologies such as Linux, Cloud, Virtualization.
  • Understanding of ITIL processes.
