Design, develop, administer, and optimize Teradata EDW/Data Mart systems. Build and maintain BTEQ scripts and complex SQL/procedures, perform query tuning, physical data modeling, index selection, and explain-plan analysis. Monitor and troubleshoot CPU, spool space, AMP issues, and batch performance. Collaborate with analytics, business teams, and TDBA to deploy high-quality data models and meet production SLAs. Support reporting via QlikView/Power BI.
The Teradata Data Engineer should be from EDW or Data Mart Systems & should possess broad technical, architectural knowledge in Teradata to develop, enhance, administer and support large data platform spanning across Business Data landscapes, Data Warehouse Systems to make business applications more streamlined and performant to meet Production cycle SLAs. The data engineer will follow application design standards and frameworks related to model deployment and execution, collaborates with analytics and business teams to improve data models that feed business intelligence tools, increasing data accessibility, and fostering data-driven decision making across the organization. He or she will also ensure data deployments are to the highest quality and standards.
Responsibilities- Hands on experience in Teradata development and proficient with BTEQ scripts, ability to understand complex logic based SQLs, joins & Procedures.
- Should have Experience in Data Warehousing/Data Mart application's optimization including Teradata Query Tuning, developing physical data modelling from Logical model in Teradata.
- Should have in-depth understanding of Teradata architecture & concepts - PE, Bynet, Vdisks, AMPs, Vprocs, Indexing, Hashing, Data Distribution/Duplication.
- Ability to choose the correct Indexes for a Database - NUPI, UPI, NUSI, USI to support Load and Extract Data operations to achieve optimal performance for storage and access to the Database.
- Experience in analysing long running queries & Jobs and root cause of problems using Explain Plan, Access Path, FTS, #No. of AMP operations, Statistics, Confidence Level, Join Strategy etc.
- Capable to Monitor CPU consumption, Disk space issues, operational parameters and troubleshooting for reducing CPU consumption & batch processing to meet Prod cycle SLAs.
- Experience in understanding Spool Space, Amp Skewness, Hot AMP issues and providing solutions to overcome it.
- Should be able to work with TDBA/Teradata Admin to understand solutions provided & transform it to technical/application level to implement the same to improve SQL performance.
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years of IT experience, OR in lieu of Degree, a High School Diploma/GED and 5+ years of experience in Teradata and proficient with BTEQ scripts.
