Aptiv opened a Software, Advanced Safety & User Experience Technical Center in Chennai as part of its engineering expansion in India. The Switzerland-headquartered company aims to support vehicle innovation through safety, sustainability and connectivity solutions.

The new center will be responsible for developing perception tools for advanced driver assistance systems, or ADAS, in-cabin sensing technologies and software-defined infotainment platforms in addition to contributing to Aptiv’s cloud-native architecture.

By 2026, up to 500 engineers are expected to work out of the 34,000 square-foot facility, which features advanced labs and test infrastructure. Their work will focus on innovation in artificial intelligence, machine learning and safety-critical systems.

Aptiv employs more than 13,000 people across India, where it’s established eight manufacturing plants and a tooling center. The Chennai facility is the company’s fourth technical center in the country.
