Manages inventory accounting and month-end close activities, including reconciliations, journal entries, cost adjustments, variance analysis, reserves, and financial reporting. Partners with supply chain and operations teams to strengthen controls and inventory governance. Supports audits, physical counts, ERP implementations, process improvements, and compliance with GAAP and SOX standards.
As an Accountant, you will maintain financial records and ensure that financial transactions are properly recorded. You will ensure the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger. You will prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports. You will analyze current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
Responsibilities:
- Manage month-end inventory close activities, including inventory reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and inventory-related financial reporting.
- Monitor inventory balances and ensure inventory transactions are accurately recorded in compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal control requirements.
- Perform monthly reconciliations between inventory subledgers and the general ledger, investigating and resolving discrepancies on a timely basis.
- Execute inventory cost adjustments, including purchase price variance (PPV) analysis, landed cost allocations, and other inventory costing activities, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment.
- Analyze inventory movements, valuation, variances, reserves, and key inventory metrics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare inventory-related financial reports, balance sheet reconciliations, management analyses, and commentary to support business decision-making.
- Assess inventory recoverability and evaluate excess, slow-moving, and obsolete inventory, including the preparation of inventory reserve analyses and recommendations.
- Partner with Supply Chain, Procurement, Logistics, and Operations teams to improve inventory management practices, strengthen financial controls, and support inventory governance.
- Support physical inventory counts, cycle counts, stock audits, and inventory verification activities to ensure inventory accuracy and integrity.
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external audits, and assist in the timely resolution of audit inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies, regulatory requirements, and inventory-related internal controls.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance inventory accounting accuracy, efficiency, reporting capabilities, and operational effectiveness.
- Participate in ERP implementations, system enhancements, business process transformations, and other inventory-related projects.
- Recommends, develops, and maintains financial databases, computer software systems, and manual filing systems.
- Inputs financial data and processes reports using company automated financial systems.
- Interacts with internal and external auditors in completing audits.
- Adheres to company policies, practices and procedures, GAAP, and SOX standards.
- Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field required
- 3–5 years of accounting or finance experience, preferably in inventory accounting, manufacturing, distribution, or supply chain finance.
- Strong knowledge of inventory accounting and financial reporting requirements
- Advanced Excel skills and data analysis capabilities.
- Ability to work under tight time schedules and to handle multiple tasks.
- Able to adapt to new responsibilities with an agile mindset.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Access
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
