Advisor, Software Development EngineeringWhat does a successful SQL Advisor do at Fiserv?
A successful SQL Advisor at Fiserv plays a critical role in designing, managing, and optimizing our SQL Server databases to ensure they meet the highest standards of performance, security, and scalability. This individual collaborates closely with various stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into effective database solutions. They are proactive in performance tuning, backup and recovery planning, and security management to maintain the integrity and availability of our data. Additionally, they provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
What you will do:
- Design and Architecture: Lead the design and architecture of SQL Server databases to meet business needs, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor databases and tune performance, including optimization of queries, indices, and server configurations to ensure efficient operation.
- Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement robust backup and disaster recovery strategies.
- Security Management: Establish and enforce database security protocols to protect sensitive data and manage user access.
- Requirement Analysis: Collaborate with developers, analysts, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective database solutions.
- Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of database architectures, designs, and procedures.
- Mentorship: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior database administrators and developers.
- Project Participation: Contribute to various projects by providing database-related input during planning, development, and deployment phases.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve database-related issues and incidents promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
What you will need to have:
- Experience: 8+ years of hands-on experience in SQL Server, SSIS Package, SSRS, Power BI Reports, VB Scripting, and SQL Server, Power Shell Scripts
- Technical Proficiency: Expert knowledge of SQL Server technologies, including T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS stored procedures, indexing, query optimization, and performance tuning. Sharepoint Knowledge.
- Database Design Skills: Strong understanding of database design principles, data modeling, normalization, and ER diagrams.
- Security Expertise: Experience in implementing and managing robust database security measures, Azure Authentication process
- Backup and Recovery Planning: Proven experience in developing and executing effective backup and disaster recovery plans.
- Collaboration Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Tool Proficiency: Familiarity with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Profiler, and other database management tools.
What would be great to have:
- Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or other relevant Microsoft certifications.
- Cloud Experience: Experience with cloud-based database services such as Azure SQL Database or Amazon RDS for SQL Server.
- Scripting Skills: Proficiency in scripting languages like PowerShell for automation and task management.
- NoSQL Databases: Familiarity with NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Cassandra.
- Big Data Technologies: Knowledge of Big Data technologies and concepts, such as Hadoop and Spark.
- Agile Methodologies: Experience working within Agile development environments.
- Advanced Tools: Familiarity with advanced database monitoring tools like Redgate or SolarWinds.
