Own verification and validation testing for high-voltage eVTOL battery systems. Develop DVPs, test procedures, and test cases; operate battery cyclers and thermal chambers; execute aerospace qualification and abuse testing; validate BMS functions through hardware-in-the-loop testing; analyze test data; and enforce high-voltage safety and thermal-runaway mitigation procedures.
About the Role
RequirementsWhat We Are Looking For (Must-Haves)
- As a Battery Testing Verification & Validation (V&V) Engineer, you will establish, scale, and own the daily testing operations for our high-voltage eVTOL battery systems. You will lead the transition of our battery packs from the design desk to rigorous physical validation. Your primary objective will be to master and execute qualification testing compliant with stringent aerospace standards, ensuring our energy storage systems are extraordinarily safe, reliable, and airworthy.
- Test Planning & Strategy: Author comprehensive Design Verification Plans (DVPs), test procedures, and test cases for battery cells, modules, and full high-voltage packs.
- Aerospace Compliance: Own the execution and documentation of regulatory testing, specifically targeting RTCA DO-311 (Minimum Operational Performance Standards for Rechargeable Lithium Battery Systems) and SAE ARP 7131 protocols.
- Daily Lab Operations: Program and operate high-power battery cyclers and environmental thermal chambers to simulate real-world flight profiles, charge/discharge cycles, and environmental extremes.
- BMS Validation: Validate Battery Management System (BMS) performance, including cell balancing, state-of-charge (SoC) accuracy, state-of-health (SoH) tracking, and safety fault triggers.
- Safety & Risk Mitigation: Enforce high-voltage (HV) safety protocols within the testing lab. Complete hazard analyses and design test setups that mitigate risks associated with thermal runaway or electrical faults.
- Testing : Create & execute test plans. Analyze collected data, extract insights from the data / participate in reviews.
- BMS HIL Testing : Perform Hardware In the Loop (HiL) testing for the BMS functionality. Quantify measurement accuracies, ensure complete battery system validation against the requirements.
RequirementsWhat We Are Looking For (Must-Haves)
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in battery validation, testing, or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments (Aerospace or EV sectors preferred).
- Equipment Mastery: Practical experience operating and programming industrial Battery Cyclers (e.g., Arbin, Neware, Chroma, or Bitrode) and Thermal Chambers.
- Standard Familiarity: Strong working knowledge of standard test planning frameworks, test reporting, and data analysis.
- HV Safety Awareness: Deep awareness of high-voltage system risks, safety barriers, and emergency containment procedures. Formal HV safety certifications are highly preferable.
- Abuse testing : Ideal candidate should have performed abuse testing on module / pack level to validate NTP (no thermal runaway propagation).
- Direct exposure to or understanding of RTCA DO-311 or SAE ARP 7131 / ARP 4761 testing requirements.
- Familiarity with BMS communication protocols (CAN, CAN-FD) and data logging tools
