About the role
Business Development Manager – Major Projects
This role offers an exciting opportunity to support AGL’s leadership in the energy transition by partnering with some of Australia’s largest energy users as they work to reduce their carbon footprint. Reporting to the Major Projects Sales Manager, the Business Development Manager will collaborate on the design and development of hybrid power systems that meet the evolving needs of AGL’s key industrial customers. The ideal candidate will contribute to nurturing a pipeline of meaningful opportunities, assist in shaping project development, and remain engaged throughout the journey from concept to completion and energization.
This role will be instrumental in preparing medium to high capital value behind-the-meter and off-grid power generation projects for consideration by customers, the AGL Board, and/or funding partners.
What you’ll be doing:
Business Development & Relationship Building, cultivate strong, trust-based relationships with large industrial energy users and key stakeholders to co-create tailored energy solutions.
Collaborate with consultants and internal teams to identify new opportunities and prepare thoughtful, well-coordinated tender submissions.
Maintain open communication and transparency across all stages of opportunity development, using CRM tools and regular updates
Project Development & Team Support, partner with cross-functional teams—including Engineering, Legal, and Delivery—to shape project scopes, budgets, and agreements that reflect shared goals.
Support the development process by engaging consultants, contractors, and technology providers, while helping manage project risks and timelines.
Strategic Growth & Innovation, nurture a healthy pipeline of opportunities aligned with annual growth targets, while contributing to the evaluation of emerging technologies.
Help refine internal processes to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, with care for quality, time, and budget.
Health, Safety & Environmental Care, promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility by upholding AGL’s HSE standards and encouraging team-wide accountability.

About You
What you’ll bring to the table:
Well-Rounded Skill Set including a strong commercial negotiation, financial analysis, and business acumen, paired with excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.
Technical Expertise and solid understanding of renewable and thermal energy systems (e.g., wind, solar, storage, generators) and energy market dynamics.
Industry Experience and tenured experience in the power or energy sector, ideally with hands-on involvement in renewable project development from concept to investment.
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, commerce, engineering, or a related field, combining both technical and commercial knowledge (preferrable)
Experience in managing diverse stakeholders, navigating regulatory and planning processes, balancing multiple projects, and mitigating project and market risks.
