We’re looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join PayPal Global Financial Risk Investigations (GFCI) team. This is a primarily backend role and you will be sought as an expert of frameworks, advocate for best practices and cross-team influencer. You should be self-motivated, team-oriented, problem solver, possess creative problem-solving skills.

Global financial crime investigations in the compliance space, particularly within Regulatory Technology (RegTech), refer to the processes and technologies used by organizations to detect, investigate, and prevent financial crimes. These crimes can include money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, corruption, bribery, and other illicit financial activities.
The team mainly focuses on a range of applications and tools designed to streamline compliance, reduce risk, and improve efficiency. We play a crucial role in helping PayPal comply with complex regulations, reduce costs, and enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of PayPal’s compliance programs.

As a Senior Software Engineer - Backend, you'll design and implement backend solutions. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products.

What do you need to bring

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.

3-5 years of backend development experience.

Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, Python, Ruby on Rails)

Advanced proficiency in backend development with either Java EE frameworks, including experience with Spring MVC, or Hibernate.

Experience designing and implementing RESTful services, focusing on scalability and reliability, using Java.

Proven ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to code reviews and design discussions.

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)

Experience with databases (SQL, NoSQL)
-
Strong understanding of database design, including SQL and NoSQL databases, and experience with ORM tools.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with large-scale, high-performance systems.

Knowledge of the payment processing industry and relevant regulations.
