About this opportunity
Ericsson seeks a researcher with a solid academic background (PhD or equivalent) and possible some years' hands-on experience in optical systems and photonic technologies to conduct high-impact research applying these technologies to transport networks and radio systems. The successful candidate will lead and contribute to research projects-often in collaboration with technology partners, universities, and other Ericsson teams-driving innovation, solving complex technical challenges, and helping to translate advanced photonics concepts into practical network and radio solutions.
What you will do
• Investigate, design and evaluate optical solutions for applications in transport networks and radio systems.
• Develop models, prototypes, and experiments to validate concepts and quantify performance.
• Collaborate with internal teams, industry partners, and academic groups to accelerate innovation and transfer results to product development.
• Produce patents and publish results, when in line with the research strategy, in journals and conferences, and represent Ericsson in relevant forums and consortia.
• Make innovation in collaboration with key stakeholders and push for technology transfer towards radio products and transport networks.
• Work with real-world constraints - performance, scalability, robustness, and energy efficiency
• You will be trusted with meaningful responsibility from day one and supported by senior researchers who are leaders in their fields.
The skills you bring
• PhD (or equivalent) in one or more of the following: photonics, optical engineering, physics, electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
• Some years of experience in optical transmission systems and technologies, optical networking, integrated photonics, or related areas applied to communications networks.
• Good communication and collaborative skills
• Professional proficiency in Japanese
• It would be beneficial to have some experience in PoC, demos or prototyping.
• At least basic knowledge of AI technologies.
