Job Summary

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Finance BI Developer to design, build, and maintain business intelligence solutions that support finance and insurance processes, compliance, and strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will develop intuitive dashboards, robust data models, and insightful reports while collaborating closely with the Lead: Data, Insights & Reporting to promote best practices in data governance and visualization.

This role requires a blend of technical expertise, financial domain knowledge, and strong stakeholder engagement skills to deliver actionable business insights.

Key Responsibilities
BI Solution Development
  • Design and implement Power BI dashboards (or equivalent BI tools) that present financial metrics, KPIs, and analyses in an engaging, user-friendly manner.
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to define and optimize ETL pipelines, ensuring data accuracy and timely refreshes.
Data Modelling & Architecture
  • Develop and maintain robust data models, including star and snowflake schemas, ensuring efficient querying and performance.
  • Validate data across multiple data sources, including Data Lakes and relational databases, to maintain consistency and integrity.
Reporting & Visualization
  • Implement best-practice visual design principles to deliver clear and meaningful dashboards for finance, actuarial, and executive stakeholders.
  • Develop both ad hoc and standardized reports supporting finance cycles, regulatory reporting, and management decision-making.
Stakeholder Engagement & Support
  • Work closely with finance teams to gather reporting requirements, clarify business needs, and provide guidance on available data.
  • Provide user training and troubleshooting support while continuously enhancing report usability and performance.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
  • Monitor report performance and data refresh cycles, identifying opportunities for optimization.
  • Improve dataset structures, queries, and calculations to deliver scalable, reliable reporting solutions.
Continuous Improvement & Collaboration
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including stand-ups and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with the Lead: Data, Insights & Reporting to promote data governance, standardization, and analytics best practices across the organization.


RequirementsMinimum Qualifications & Experience
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field.
Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years' hands-on experience in Business Intelligence development, data visualization, or reporting.
  • Experience within Financial Services or Insurance analytics is preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in Power BI (or similar BI tools such as Tableau or Qlik), including DAX, data modelling, and dashboard design.
  • Experience building paginated reports (SSRS) is an added advantage.
  • Strong SQL skills for querying and transforming data.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience with ETL tools and data pipelines such as SSIS or Azure Data Factory is advantageous.
  • Experience with Microsoft AI tools, including Copilot and Foundry, will be an added advantage.
Additional Qualifications (Preferred)
  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst or similar BI certification.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms such as Azure Synapse and Databricks.
  • Familiarity with Python or R for data analytics.
  • Experience working within Agile or Scrum environments
