About the role

AGL is seeking a commercially minded finance professional to help establish and embed the finance operating model across SAVPP and future Community Power Projects. The role will be responsible for building robust financial reporting, planning, controls and governance processes that support a newly integrated retail electricity business.

Working closely with operational and commercial stakeholders, you will take ownership of month-end reporting, budgeting, forecasting and performance analysis, ensuring the business has accurate, timely and decision-useful financial information to support growth and decision-making.
This is a 12 month maximum-term opportunity, based in Melbourne.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Set up the finance processes for Community Power from scratch, including: reporting, controls, month-end close processes and continuous improvement.

  • Own the numbers end to end: month-end close, budgeting, forecasting and analysis.

  • Build and maintain the models that forecast revenue, margin and costs, including the month-end accruals behind them.

  • Produce clear monthly reporting and commentary, explaining how the actual results compare to budget, forecast and the original business case.

  • Prepare planning and reporting inputs for finance leadership, group reporting and management review packs.

  • Be the go-to finance partner for the business, turning complex data into clear insights and practical advice that shape decisions.

  • Spot gaps in data, processes and reporting, and work with others to close them.

  • Prepare and present finance updates, performance, risks and opportunities for finance and business meetings, group reporting and leadership packs.

  • Pitch in on ad hoc analysis, business cases and integration work as priorities shift, working independently and juggling competing demands.

What You'll Bring

  • A track record of setting up finance processes and controls from the ground up in a new or changing business.

  • Strong all-round finance experience: financial analysis, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and month-end close, ideally in a fast-moving commercial or energy business.

  • Experience leading a finance workstream or business integration end to end, coordinating across several teams.

  • Commercial sense and strong business-partnering skills; ability to turn large, messy datasets into a clear story and sound recommendations.

  • Solid hands-on experience with reconciliations, accruals and variance analysis, with a sharp eye for detail and control.

  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills; SAP (business planning and consolidation) experience is a plus.

  • A clear communicator who can explain finance to non-finance people and build strong relationships at all levels.

  • Comfortable managing competing priorities and staying effective in a changing environment.

What you need to know about the Chennai Tech Scene

To locals, it's no secret that South India is leading the charge in big data infrastructure. While the environmental impact of data centers has long been a concern, emerging hubs like Chennai are favored by companies seeking ready access to renewable energy resources, which provide more sustainable and cost-effective solutions. As a result, Chennai, along with neighboring Bengaluru and Hyderabad, is poised for significant growth, with a projected 65 percent increase in data center capacity over the next decade.
