You help us maintain high standards of quality and compliance while supporting customers in their journey to homeownership. You will analyze financial documents, assess risk, and communicate decisions to internal partners. Your work directly impacts our clients' experience and the success of our lending operations.

As a Home Lending Underwriter I in the Consumer Originations Underwriting team, you are a key decision-maker who ensures loan applications meet program and regulatory requirements. Job Responsibilities
- Review and analyze residential mortgage loan applications for accuracy and completeness
- Apply Chase credit policies and investor guidelines to underwriting decisions
- Assess borrower repayment capacity, assets, creditworthiness, and property condition
- Communicate underwriting decisions and conditions to internal partners
- Ensure compliance with fair lending practices and regulatory requirements
- Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with mortgage applications
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of credit policy changes and industry standards
- Deliver exceptional customer service throughout the underwriting process
- Collaborate with Home Lending Advisors, Client Care Specialists, and other stakeholders
- Prioritize workflows to meet productivity, quality, and turnaround time goals
- Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and properly filed
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Minimum 1 year of experience as an underwriter or in a similar role
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, economics, or related field
- Proficiency in mortgage underwriting software and automated underwriting systems
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Solid understanding of federal and state mortgage regulations
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Commitment to delivering excellent customer service
- Willingness to work night shifts (US hours)
- Ability to work hybrid and 5 days in office, as required by business needs
- Demonstrated problem-solving and adaptability skills
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Experience with various mortgage products
- Comprehensive knowledge of FNMA/FHLMC guidelines
- Experience in reviewing complex financial statements and loan documentation
- CSA / Voice Certified
- Experience collaborating with internal and external partners
- Proficiency in spreadsheet calculators and specialized underwriting tools
- Experience in identifying and resolving documentation deficiencies
Internal Application Eligibility Requirements
TENURE:
- Must meet minimum employment tenure requirement. Specific roles require longer tenure in current position to be eligible to apply. Unless established for specific positions by the line of business, the standard tenure requirement is 12 months.
