Role Summary

As a Lead Engineer (Full Stack, Finance Systems), you will serve as the technical leader for design, development, and support of Staples core Finance applications and integrations. You will coordinate with a distributed team (onshore + offshore), drive architecture and technical decisions, and ensure compliance with financial, tax, and reporting requirements. This role requires deep hands-on expertise in ERP/Finance integrations, billing & tax systems, Azure Cloud & AKS, and data compliance/reporting, combined with strong leadership skills to guide contractors and junior engineers.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of integrations between billing, tax, ERP, and compliance reporting systems.
  • Architect and guide development of full-stack applications using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices.
  • Drive cloud-native adoption by designing and deploying containerized applications on Azure (AKS, PostgreSQL, Service Bus) and GCP.
  • Implement and optimize event-driven architectures leveraging Solace for high-performance, asynchronous communication.
  • Champion coding standards and CI/CD automation, defining best practices for pipelines and deployments.
  • Drive observability adoption, ensuring services include robust logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting with Splunk, New Relic, and related tools.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX, IRS, and other audit/regulatory requirements through robust design and controls.
  • Partner with Finance, Tax, and Audit teams to deliver scalable, auditable, and high-performance solutions.
  • Oversee production support for Oracle HCM/ERP and related Finance systems; serve as escalation point.
  • Assign and review work for offshore contractors; ensure deliverables are timely, high quality, and aligned.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and enforcing development standards.
  • Engage in vendor/product evaluations and contribute to roadmap discussions.



Requirements

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in a lead/mentoring role.
  • Strong experience with Finance/ERP systems (Oracle EBS/Cloud, HCM, billing, tax).
  • Hands-on development skills in Java, Spring Boot, Python, or similar full stack frameworks.
  • Expertise in API design, microservices, and ERP integrations.
  • Experience with Azure services, Kubernetes/AKS, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of financial data compliance, controls, and reporting requirements.
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cloud DevOps experience, particularly with Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Vertex O Series or other tax engines.
  • Knowledge of billing, reconciliation, and financial close processes.
  • Cloud security/IAM exposure with role-based access control.
  • Experience with Splunk, NewRelic, or equivalent monitoring tools.
  • Certifications in Azure, Oracle, or cloud-native architectures.
