The Manager, Data Science is a management role accountable for managing junior level and seasoned Data Scientists / Data Analysts.
In addition to managing a team, this role applies and inspires the adoption of data science and analytics within the organization.
The primary responsibility of this job is to manage data-driven solutions that add business value using statistical models, machine learning algorithms, data mining, and visualization techniques.
This management role is responsible for fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture across the team(s) within their remit.
- Manage a team of Data Scientists / Data Analysts to ensure achievement of team objectives/KPIs and continuously coaches the team to understand and apply data to solve business solutions.
- Guides the enhancement of data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems.
- Provides input to process, clean, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis, and building algorithms necessary to find meaningful answers.
- Performs analysis using programming languages or statistical packages such as Python and R etc.
- Guides the mining and analysis of data to drive optimization and improvement of business strategy.
- Provides input to develop scalable and highly available applications leveraging the latest tools and technologies.
- Creatively visualizes and effectively communicates results of data analysis, insights, and ideas in a variety of formats to key decision-makers within the business.
- Takes ideas to successful launch by leading and mentoring diverse, geo-distributed teams through innovation, bootstrapping, pilot, production, scaling, and maintenance phases with multiple stakeholders to the highest levels of quality and performance.
- Manages the development of SQL Queries for reports and dashboards.
- Analyzes relational and transactional databases to provide data analysis, and present results in a clear manner.
- Guides the creation of documentation around processes and procedures and manage code reviews
- Applies industry standards best practices to development activities and continuously ensures team remains abreast of latest technology and tools in the area of data science.
- Provide input to working on data set to ensure solutions are successfully executed, within agreed upon time frames.
- Good understanding of data modelling, statistical methods and machine learning techniques.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Quantitative and qualitative analysis skills.
- Desire to acquire more knowledge to keep up to speed with the ever-evolving field of data science.
- Curiosity to sift through data to find answers and more insights.
- Good understanding of the information technology industry within a matrixed organization and the typical business problems such organizations face.
- Ability to translate technical findings clearly and fluently to non-technical team business stakeholders to enable informed decision-making.
- Ability to create a storyline around the data to make it easy to interpret and understand.

- Able to apply data science principles through a business lens.

- Ability to think strategically about how to use data to drive competitive advantages.
- Excellent management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Data Science, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
- Relevant programming certification preferred.
- Agile certification preferred.
- Advanced demonstrable experience with one or more programming languages, statistical packages, and database languages.
- Advanced demonstrable experience with data warehouse and data lake technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL/ ELT, and reporting/analytic tools.
- Advanced demonstrated experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, Weka, NumPy, MatLab, etc. (excellence in at least one of these is highly desirable).
- Advanced demonstrated experience with machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.
- Advanced demonstrable experience applying statistical methods and machine learning techniques to solve business problems.
- Advanced demonstrated experience with distributed data/computing tools such as Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, MySQL, etc.
- Advanced demonstrated experience in working in micro-services architecture working with APIs development.
- Advanced demonstrable experience of full-stack software development with prolific coding abilities.
- Advanced demonstrable experience in Elastic search, Scoring, and recommendation on very large volumes of data.
- Advanced demonstrated experience with Agile Development Methodologies and Test-Driven Development.
- Solid line manager experience leading and managing a team of Data Scientists / Data Analysts.
