Global Capability Center (GCC) helps Growth centers of Xylem such as AWS, Treatment and Analytics in wide range of activities that include New Product Development, Value Engineering, Sustain Engineering and Software development. We partner with them to anticipate and respond to evolving business needs with innovation in sensing and communications technologies, data analytics and services.

Brief Description/Job Summary: VE/Sustain Engineer

GCC Vadodara campus seeks to hire a mechanical design engineer who can contribute to the growth of Xylem's India Technology Center and its expansion into disruptive technology and business solutions. The position plays a key role in advancing Xylem’s water treatment technology capabilities, with a strong focus on product lifecycle management, cost optimization, standardization, and continuous improvement. This role is central to maintaining and enhancing existing products, driving value engineering and standardization initiatives, and supporting sustain engineering activities that strengthen Xylem’s portfolio in water and wastewater treatment technologies. Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Lead sustain engineering activities for existing and legacy products, including standardization and design optimization.
  • Execute value engineering projects to reduce cost, improve manufacturability, and enhance product performance.
  • Complete understanding of the relevant scientific and technical principles, standards, and concepts, as well as extensive experience in their application
  • Manage engineering change requests (ECR) and change notices (ECN) in close coordination with production, supply chain, sales, and aftermarket teams.
  • Provide CAD support for design modifications, legacy product conversions, and documentation updates.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, production, and cross-functional teams to resolve technical queries and ensure material/design compliance.
  • Creation of articles and assemblies, as well as triggering purchase requisitions in enterprise resource planning (ERP) system
  • Design and calculation of mechanical/electromechanical components, assemblies, and in accordance with the processes and implementation according to the specifications.
  • Conduct technical risk analysis and FMEA/DFMA for design validation.
  • Support NPD initiatives with design validation, prototyping, and transition to manufacturing.
  • Drive product maintenance strategies to ensure compliance with international standards and evolving customer needs.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional and regional teams to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Independently manage assigned tasks, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely completion.

Must Have:

  • Proficiency in at least one CAD platform: Inventor preferred; Creo/SolidWorks welcome.
  • Strong knowledge of international standards and industry codes in mechanical design.
  • Hands-on manufacturing experience and/or background in OEM industries.
  • Experience in product lifecycle management, sustain engineering, and value engineering.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical system design, application, and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of piping systems (pumps, valves, pressure tanks, boilers)
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations: structural, mechanical, hydraulic and process
  • Proven track record of handling engineering change management (ECR/ECN).

Good to Have:  

  • Experience in manufacturing background, or practical application of engineering drawings.
  • Experience with wastewater treatment systems and related ETO projects/product lines.
  • Configurator tool building / general programming
  • Experience with steel structures / civil works / concrete 
  • Knowledge of product validation and testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with PLM tools such as Windchill, Autodesk Vault.
  • Project management skills for coordinating cross-functional tasks, timelines, and deliverables
  • Strong cross-functional communication and supplier collaboration skills.

Qualifications:

  • 4-Year bachelor’s degree / 4 + 2-Year master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • 4-6 years of progressive experience in the relevant field.
  • Deep expertise in water and wastewater disinfection treatment technologies and products, with awareness of emerging trends and innovations.
