A PeopleSoft Administrator is responsible for the overall management, configuration, and maintenance of the PeopleSoft system within an organization. They ensure the system is running smoothly, optimize performance, and address any technical issues that may arise.

  • System administration: Installing, configuring, and maintaining the PeopleSoft system, including application servers, web servers, and database servers. This involves setting up security measures, managing user access, and performing regular system upgrades and patches.

  • System monitoring and troubleshooting: Monitoring the system for performance issues, identifying, and resolving system errors, and conducting system health checks. They also perform troubleshooting tasks to resolve end-user issues, such as application errors or user permission problems.

  • Performance tuning: Identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, optimizing system performance, and ensuring optimal system response time. This may involve tasks like database tuning, optimizing PeopleSoft processes, or configuring system components for better performance.

  • Security management: Managing user access to the PeopleSoft system, including user roles, permissions, and security settings. They also ensure compliance with data protection regulations and implement security policies and procedures to safeguard sensitive information.

  • Backup and recovery: Creating and executing backup and recovery strategies for the PeopleSoft system, including database backups, system snapshots, and disaster recovery plans. They ensure data integrity and system availability in the event of system failures or disasters.

  • Collaboration with stakeholders: Working closely with functional users, developers, and IT teams to understand business requirements, resolve issues, and implement system enhancements. They collaborate with vendors, consultants, and other areas of IT to ensure smooth integration of PeopleSoft with other enterprise systems.

  • Documentation and training: Creating and maintaining technical documentation, system configuration guides, and user manuals for the PeopleSoft system. They also provide training and support to end-users on system usage, troubleshooting, and best practices.

  • Automation & Cloud Knowledge: Experience in automating routine PeopleSoft administrative tasks such as domain management, service restarts, monitoring checks, and environment validation using Shell scripting, Python, or similar tools. Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, or Azure, including computer, storage, networking, and security concepts.

  • Participate in on‑call support during weekends and non‑business hours as per the defined support roster. Perform planned weekend maintenance activities, including patching, upgrades, deployments, and infrastructure changes. Provide rotational shift support to ensure 24x7 availability of business‑critical systems

To excel in this role, a PeopleSoft Administrator should have strong technical knowledge of PeopleSoft software, databases (such as Oracle or SQL Server), web servers, and operating systems. They should be proficient in scripting languages, have problem-solving and analytical skills, and be detail oriented. Good communication and interpersonal skills are also necessary to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and provide technical support to end-users.
