About the role
This role is responsible for leading and delivering projects. These can be projects that are capital projects, emergent projects or those projects in the wind portfolio (OPEX). Reporting to Project Delivery Manager, the Project Manager / Project Engineer is responsible for leading the scoping, planning, scheduling and delivery of projects within the Gas and Renewable asset portfolio (Hydro, Gas, Wind, Storage systems). This includes the provision of project management comprising of the establishment of external and internal delivery resources, delivery of projects works and full accountability for time, cost and quality of delivery for assigned projects.
This role will work in close collaboration with Engineering, Operations and Maintenance in delivering outage and project objectives. All works will be delivered in line with the Project Management Framework, supporting the achievement of the Asset’s operational and financial objectives and targets. The Project Manager / Project Engineer will be both focused on current project delivery as well as future focused on the 5 year project pipeline.
What you’ll be doing
- Collaborate with the Engineering team to commence project management utilising Amplify stage gates through to close out.
- Lead the delivery of projects assigned to them including effective scoping, planning, scheduling and management of approved CAPEX and OPEX projects and emergent projects across all AGL Gas & Renewables assets.
- Accountability for delivery of projects including development of budget, resources, outage management, permitting, site mobilisation, financial compliance etc.
- Hold permits as the Authorised Permit Holder and/or Recipient in Charge (RIC) for assigned sites (as required).
- Work closely with their line manager and the Procurement business partners to bundle similar projects and develop favourable, multi-year procurement strategies.
- Investigate and recommend innovative contract management opportunities.
- Simplify procurement processes to extract efficiencies and strong commercial outcomes.
- Project Management Framework (PMF)– Responsible for the application of the Project Management Framework. Ensure with relevant engineering and technical standards and reporting systems for the control of projects including:
- Use of approved Project Management tool (Amplify) to manage project cost and schedule.
- Steering Committee and Stage Gates are conducted.
- Assisting in the ranking and prioritisation of expenditure.
- Effective coordination of project management processes and implementation of improvement initiatives. - Work closely with their line manager and finance to ensure compliance to financial reporting requirements. Responsible for Purchase Requisitions/Purchase Orders for their projects as well as monthly forecasting, goods receipting and service entries.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering to ensure optimal working relationship between Engineering and Projects for effective delivery of projects and handover from Approved to Implement to project management.
- Utilisation of Amplify to provide project status updates.
- Regular reporting to management on progress of project delivery. Report to management on future project planning and uplift initiatives.
- Discuss and escalate to the Project Delivery Manager project resources to support. Responsible for coordinating any outages required or to be done during scheduled outages.
- Continuous Improvement/Operational excellence - Contribute to and lead assigned continuous improvement activities and projects.
- Health, Safety & Environment - Ensure that all Health, Safety and Environment Systems and goals are introduced and adhered to while meeting the organisations policies and standards for HSE Management.
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor degree in Engineering (preferred but not mandatory)
- Tertiary qualification or extensive experience in project management of
construction projects (preferred in energy industry but not mandatory) - Proven technical expertise in project management disciplines
- Ability to work within key AS/NZ/ISO documents such as:
- PMBOK (ISO 21500 Project Management Principles)
- AS/NZ/ISO 31000 Risk Management
- AS/NZ/ISO 10006 Quality Management systems Projects
- AS 4817 Earned Value Management - A certification from the Australian Institute of Project Management
(AIPM) is highly desirable. - Proven project management and supervision of multiple construction or refurbishment projects, including refurbishments, new build, site upgrades, fit out projects and contractor management of minor and major works.
- Experience with Permit to Work systems in construction or relevant industry. Ideally, the candidate can hold permits as the Authorised Permit Holder and/or Recipient in Charge (RIC) for assigned sites (as required) or has the competency to be trained in AGL Permit to Work system.
- Ability to create a sense of need to achieve organisational goals in line with
a clear overall vision through planning, managing performance, motivating
people and role modelling desired behaviours. - Proven understanding of financial and risk management principles.
- Participates in and/or leads successful projects, using strong communication and organisational skills to balance conflicting priorities and manage resources.
