Job Description

As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, you’ll discover meaningful work that makes a positive impact on a global scale. Join our colleagues in bringing our Mission to life every single day to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. We provide our global teams with the resources needed to achieve individual career goals while helping to take science a step beyond by developing solutions for some of the world’s toughest challenges, like protecting the environment, making sure our food is safe or helping find cures for cancer.

DESCRIPTION:

Join our team as an SAP ABAP Developer at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where you’ll contribute to technology solutions that enable and optimize critical business processes across our global organization. In this role, you’ll analyze business requirements, design and develop SAP solutions, and enhance existing applications to improve operational efficiency and business performance.

As a key member of the SAP Core Team, you’ll design, develop, and enhance ABAP solutions across Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms, and Workflows (RICEFW). You’ll build and support integrations using technologies such as RFC, BAPI, IDoc, Proxies, Web Services, and OData, while implementing enhancements through User Exits, Customer Exits, BAdIs, and implicit and explicit enhancement frameworks.

Working closely with functional teams across FI/CO, MM, SD, PP, QM, WM/EWM, and other SAP areas, you’ll translate business requirements into effective technical solutions. You’ll prepare Technical Design Specifications (TDS), provide effort estimates and impact assessments, perform unit testing, and support SIT/UAT, deployments, cutovers, and hypercare activities.

You’ll also provide production support by analyzing incidents, identifying root causes, debugging complex issues, and implementing sustainable solutions. As part of our commitment to quality and operational excellence, you’ll participate in peer code reviews, optimize application performance, follow secure coding and development standards, manage transports through Solution Manager, and collaborate with Basis and Security teams on system changes, roles, and authorizations.

Our collaborative environment encourages technical excellence, continuous learning, and creative problem-solving. You’ll have opportunities to work across both ECC and S/4HANA landscapes while building experience with modern SAP technologies including ABAP on HANA, CDS Views, AMDP, OData, and Fiori/UI5.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field
• 4–6 years of strong hands-on SAP ABAP development experience across ECC and S/4HANA environments
• Strong experience in RICEFW development, including Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms, and Workflows
• Experience with SAP integration technologies including IDoc, RFC, BAPI, Web Services, Proxies, and OData
• Experience implementing enhancements using User Exits, Customer Exits, BAdIs, and Implicit/Explicit enhancement techniques

• Strong hands-on experience in SAP Forms development, including SAP script, and Adobe Forms.
• Strong hands-on experience with SAP IDoc development and support, including debugging, error handling, and integration troubleshooting.

• Strong ABAP debugging, troubleshooting, and performance-tuning skills
• Experience analyzing business requirements and preparing Technical Design Specifications (TDS)
• Knowledge of ABAP on HANA, CDS Views, and AMDP
• Working knowledge of Fiori/UI5 and modern SAP application development concepts
• Exposure to S/4HANA simplifications and modern extensibility approaches
• Experience with unit testing and supporting SIT and UAT cycles
• Knowledge of SAP development standards, performance optimization, secure coding practices, and audit requirements
• Experience managing SAP transport requests and releases, preferably using Solution Manager
• Ability to collaborate with SAP functional teams across areas such as FI/CO, MM, SD, PP, QM, and WM/EWM
• Ability to coordinate effectively with Basis and Security teams on system changes, roles, and authorizations
• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving abilities
• Strong ownership and delivery focus with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional and global teams
• Excellent verbal and written communication and stakeholder management skills
• Willingness to learn emerging SAP technologies and adapt to evolving business and technical requirements

What you need to know about the Chennai Tech Scene

To locals, it's no secret that South India is leading the charge in big data infrastructure. While the environmental impact of data centers has long been a concern, emerging hubs like Chennai are favored by companies seeking ready access to renewable energy resources, which provide more sustainable and cost-effective solutions. As a result, Chennai, along with neighboring Bengaluru and Hyderabad, is poised for significant growth, with a projected 65 percent increase in data center capacity over the next decade.
