Job Title: Senior AI Engineer I
Location: India
Workplace Type: Hybrid
Job Summary
The future is bright for the Porch Group, and we’d love for you to be a part of it as our Senior AI Engineer I.
We are building an AI layer that reads professional inspection reports — produced in a dozen incompatible formats by a dozen different vendor tools — and turns them into structured, actionable data for the people who have to act on them, without ever altering the inspector’s original wording. This is a founding AI engineering role: you will own the extraction pipeline end to end, from ingestion and parsing through model selection, evaluation, confidence thresholds, and the human review loop. You will work directly with a domain expert to define what “correct” means, and you will be the person accountable for knowing whether the system is getting better or worse. This is a production engineering role, not a research role — success is measured in recall on real documents, not in novel methods. If you want to build the foundational AI infrastructure for a category-defining product and see your work ship straight into production, this is that role.
What You Will Do As A Senior AI Engineer I
- Build and own the document ingestion and extraction pipeline: PDF and HTML input, text-layer and scanned documents, OCR fallback, layout-aware parsing
- Design the canonical output schema and the extraction logic that maps heterogeneous source formats onto it
- Implement span grounding — every extracted field carries the verbatim source text and a locator back to its origin. Preserving source text exactly is a hard product requirement, not a preference
- Build the evaluation harness: labeled golden set, per-field precision and recall, regression suite that runs on every prompt, model, or pipeline change
- Calibrate confidence scoring and set the thresholds that decide what auto-accepts versus what routes to human review
- Design and build the human-in-the-loop review workflow with the product and design partners
- Own unit economics: cost and latency per document, model tiering, caching, batching
- Instrument the system so silent failures surface, and monitor drift and regression in production
- Partner with a domain expert to define the taxonomy, adjudicate edge cases, and maintain labeling guidelines
What You Will Bring As A Senior AI Engineer I
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 5+ years of hands-on with Software Engineer and ML/AI systems
- Strong experience building and owning production ML/AI systems, ideally involving LLMs, NLP, or document/information extraction pipelines
- Hands-on experience with OCR, layout-aware parsing, and processing heterogeneous document formats (PDF, HTML, scanned images)
- Experience designing evaluation harnesses and working with precision/recall or similar quality metrics for ML systems
- Experience building or partnering closely on human-in-the-loop review workflows
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, with the ability to own a system end to end in a production environment
- Proven experience working with US based business teams
- Excellent written and communication skills in English language
- Must currently reside in or are located within 150 km of Greater Delhi NCR, Greater Bangalore, or Greater Pune
- Working Hours: 8 Hours (Excluding breaks): 4 Core US Hours Overlap (7:30pm- 11:30pm IST) & 4 flexible hours (IST)
- Workspace: A quiet space to work, an internet connection of at least 30 Mbps download | 10 Mbps upload
The application window for this position is anticipated to close in 2 weeks (10 business days) from September 29, 2026. Please know this may change based on business and interviewing needs.
