Senior Database Engineer (MS SQL Primary, with MySQL Expertise)

The Team

To complement our rapid growth, we are actively searching for an enthusiastic and results-driven Senior Database Engineer (MS SQL Primary, with MySQL Expertise) to join our Technical Operations team. The ideal candidate will primarily focus on our Microsoft SQL Server environments while also possessing significant experience and willingness to manage our MySQL database systems.
*This position is based out of one of the offices of our affiliate Acqueon Technologies in India, and will adopt the hybrid work arrangements of that location. You will be a member of the Acqueon team with responsibilities supporting Five9 products, collaborating with global teammates based primarily in the United States.

• Support and maintain production databases for both MS SQL Server and MySQL in global data centers, ensuring high availability and performance.

• Implement and support MS SQL Server database technologies including Replication and Always-on Availability Groups.

• Support and maintain MySQL database replication and clustering solutions (e.g., master-master replication).

• Proactively monitor production databases for both platforms, conduct performance tuning, and manage comprehensive backup and recovery processes.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues, ensuring continuous database systems availability and optimal performance.

• Design and build highly available and performing MySQL databases, aligning with architectural best practices.

• Develop database tools and scripts to automate existing database tasks across MS SQL Server and MySQL environments.

• Create and maintain thorough database-related documentation, including processes and procedures.

• Adhere strictly to the change management process for all production database modifications.

• Participate in scheduled maintenance windows and a rotating on-call schedule for production support.

• Provide database reports and insights to various business units including Finance, Operations, Customer Success, and Legal as needed.

• Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience as a MS SQL Server DBA supporting critical production environments.

• Strong practical experience with MS SQL Server administration, including space management, patching, and upgrades.

• In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with MS SQL Server High Availability solutions (e.g., Replication and Always-on cluster environments).

• Demonstrated experience (2+ years) in designing and administering MySQL databases in a production support environment.

• Proficient with MySQL implementation, performance tuning, and a strong understanding of master-master replication.

• Ability to detect and troubleshoot database-related bottlenecks (CPU, memory, IO, disk space, and other resource constraints) for both MS SQL Server and MySQL.

• Solid understanding of MS SQL Server backup/restore and recovery models.

• Experience in SQL Server and MySQL user management and security.

• Strong understanding of Linux operating systems, including the ability to inspect hardware performance and load indicators, relevant for MySQL environments.

• Basic network and operating system debugging skills.

• Experience in virtualization environments.

• Proven experience in implementing operational automation, including Python and/or Shell Scripting.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong documentation skills for processes and procedures.

• Experience with Microsoft Windows Server administration.

• Ability to work and multi-task effectively under pressure.

• Excellent team player with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

• Preferred experience with migration of databases to cloud platforms (GCP, AWS).

• Familiarity with OLAP interactions with SQL.

• Background in NoSQL technologies.

• Familiarity with MySQL variants such as Percona.

• Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley, PCI DSS, and other security practices.

• Data Warehouse experience.

• Java and/or Ruby experience.
