Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Mumbai, India

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our R&D team in Mumbai. In this role, you will provide system design ownership for fluorescent detection instruments, taking responsibility for mechanical design and instrument concepts throughout the development process and product lifecycle management. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including electronics and software development, QA, product management, manufacturing, sourcing, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical design expertise for fluorescent detection instruments using SolidWorks
  • Apply advanced knowledge of part design, datum schemes, tolerance analysis, GD&T, and design for manufacturing
  • Develop new products with a focus on materials, manufacturing processes, and DFM principles
  • Create CAD models, drawings, and prototypes; perform verification testing and develop technical documentation
  • Support planning activities, cost estimation, and collaborate with project management
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental requirements for laboratory equipment
  • Redesign existing products to maintain manufacturing capabilities, extend product lifecycle, and add new features
  • Train manufacturing and service engineers on building and maintaining new products
  • Develop test and assembly fixtures/tools
  • Evaluate design margins, tolerances, and reliability factors including wear, materials strength, chemical compatibility, and environmental effects
  • Implement good design practices and DFMEA methodologies
  • Work with different materials and production technologies, collaborating with suppliers to improve part design
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure designs meet requirements and expectations
  • Conduct experimental testing, validate simulation results, and perform verification at component/module/system levels
  • Manage technical reviews, documentation, and product reports according to standards
  • Develop risk assessment and mitigation plans
  • Support product manufacturing setup, assembly, adjustment, testing, and vendor development

Qualifications

  • B.E./M.E. in Mechanical Engineering
  • 8-10 years of experience in mechanical design engineering
  • Strong background in mechanical and precision engineering with project management experience
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (ePDM experience a plus)
  • Experience with scientific instrumentation design
  • Knowledge of machining, forming, and molding processes
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills for regulated environments
  • Experience in requirements definition and management
  • Demonstrated analytical approach and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong verbal and numerical reasoning skills
  • Ability to draw sound conclusions from complex data
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers
  • High self-motivation and independent work ethic

  • This position may require travel to manufacturing sites and other Revvity offices globally
