POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Senior Project Manager

Reports Directly to: Director of Project Management

Position Overview:

The SPM will be responsible for the day to day management of all of the Project Managers in the PMO. The SPM will mentor the Project Managers (PM) by providing project management expertise, development, and feedback on projects they are assigned to.

The SPM is responsible for continuously improving the PMO by refining and enhancing project management practices and procedures within the PMO.

The SPM will be the lead Project Manager for individual Projects under PMO Management as assigned by the VP.

Requirements

Primary Responsibilities:

As the Manager of other Project Managers

· Responsible for monitoring all projects, and holding the PMs accountable, in order to accomplish the project goals or produce the products required.

· Continuously monitors the progress in terms of the status of the plan and reports progress via weekly or other progress reporting by organizing and managing status meetings.

· Takes corrective action as appropriate, and reviews how issues and risks may impact scope, schedule, quality and cost.

· Effectively applies methodology, enforces project standards, and minimizes risk exposure on all projects.

· Oversees PM’s working on client engagements within practice.

· Implements engagement review and quality assurance procedures in accordance with the methodology to ensure profitable and successful execution of all projects.

· Delivers engaging, informative, well-organized presentations.

· All other duties as assigned

· Participates in all programs relating to performance evaluations and career development planning for all direct PMO reports.

As a Project Manager managing Projects:

· Works directly with the team members or with their team leaders to estimate effort, plan activities and negotiate consensus among individual team members on their appointed tasks.

· Identifies the need for resources, and shares team management responsibilities in relation to the resource available to the project with the programming manager or technical lead.

· Defines acceptance criteria or working with specialists to define acceptance criteria for project deliverables.

· Articulates and negotiates consensus on a final vision of the product and/or the core project goals.

· May manage and coordinate third party contractors.

· Responsible for bringing the project to a close, which may include creating an end of project report or evaluation document, holding deployment meetings and activities

· Assists Commercial Managers in setting and managing client expectations.

· PMO Management. The SPM is the PMO Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in a technical, business, or financial discipline required

· Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate required

· Minimum of 6-10 years direct project management experience

· Minimum of 3-5 years of direct management experience required

· Prior experience in a high technology or manufacturing company is strongly preferred

· Experience leading organizations and teams is required, ideally working within and leading a PMO area.

Required Skills:

· Excellent written, communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to articulate and negotiate consensus

· Excellent organizational skills

· Expert knowledge to identify opportunities for change – including the ability to convey and provide leadership for the change

· Ability to accomplish goals within constraints such as time, cost and quality standards

· Ability to identify, log, analyze and manage issues and risks

· Ability to take corrective action and escalate when necessary

· Effectively apply methodology and enforce project standards.

· Ability to ensure project documents are complete, current and stored appropriately.

· Ability to facilitate effective team meetings.

· Direct working knowledge of MS Project, and intermediate/expert level in MS Office Suite
