We are looking for a Technical Writer to create documentation primarily for our athenaOne products but also attain knowledge and cross-over with our athenaIDX product. Your job will be to work collaboratively in an Agile environment with subject matter experts to document functionality in online help and release notes for customers who use athenahealth SaaS based services on every bi-weekly and tri-annual releases, meeting hard deadlines. The Team: Our Technical Writing team engages closely with engineering and product teams to document functionality implemented as part of regular release schedules.
Job Responsibilities
- Document functionality in online help, release notes, and other documentation for biweekly and tri-annual releases of the athenaOne products using the MadCap Flare and MadCap Central authoring and hosting tools.
- Work to attain a deep knowledge of athenaOne functionality with continuous learning and online training.
- Ensure quality of all deliverables by working closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) from Product and Services teams on content accuracy and by testing all functionality in an environment to ensure a hands-on working knowledge of the functionality being documented – not just a theoretical understanding.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in existing processes and deliverables.
- Proactively seek out and foster relationships and connections across scrum teams and enablement partners to support cohesion and consistency throughout the user’s experience.
- Use JIRA to track documentation.
Typical Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Writing, English, Journalism, Computer Science, or commensurate level of professional experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience that includes authoring process documentation, online help, reference manuals.
- Exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills, including group presentation and relationship building.
- Experience maintaining a large amount of documentation for a product and establishing new content structures within it.
- Demonstrated initiative in innovating and implementing workflow, process, and technical solutions.
- Experience in an Agile development environment preferred.
- Experience with Madcap Flare, Contentful, Adobe RoboHelp, or similar authoring tool preferred.
- Experience with SnagIt, Camtasia, Photoshop, or similar graphics tool preferred.
- Working knowledge of Bugzilla, JIRA, or similar bug tracking tool preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
