Editorial Developer
About the Role
Pearson is seeking an experienced Editorial Developer to lead the development of high-quality educational content that meets product goals, learner needs, and market expectations.
In this role, you will partner internally with product managers, project managers, and content developers and externally with authors, subject matter experts, and teachers to create engaging learning experiences in digital and print formats. You will be responsible for guiding editorial development of narrative, multimedia, and assessment, ensuring it is strategically aligned, pedagogically sound, and production ready.
In this position, you will combine content strategy, editorial expertise, and project leadership. Successful candidates will collaborate with internal and external partners, including authors; manage complex content development, including narrative, art, and multimedia; and use good editorial judgment, understanding market needs, growth goals, and schedule requirements.

What You'll Do
Oversee Content Development
- Guide authors and subject matter experts through the content development process, from onboarding through final manuscript delivery, acceptable in content and form.
- Review, shape, and edit content to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, and alignment to learning outcomes and curriculum standards.
- Provide developmental and substantive editorial feedback, with the goal of strengthening student experiences and driving student outcomes.
- Ensure content supports product strategy, pedagogical goals, and market requirements.
Drive Quality and Innovation
- Apply editorial standards, including accessibility requirements and quality frameworks throughout content development.
- Contribute to author guidelines, editorial templates, and workflow improvements
- Provide direction for the development of instructional resources, learning activities, and course assessments aligned to learning objectives and educational standards.
- Leverage AI-assisted workflows and emerging technologies to improve content quality, drive production efficiency, and facilitate speed to market.
Manage Programs and Deliverables
- Develop and maintain content development schedules, author deliverables, and project milestones.
- Coordinate the peer review process and guide incorporation of feedback into manuscript.
- Monitor progress, identify risks, and communicate recommendations to stakeholders.
- Ensure projects are delivered within scope, on schedule, and within budget.
Collaborate Across Teams
- Partner closely with Product Managers, Learning Designers, Content Developers, Producers, Project Managers, and External Vendors.
- Serve as a trusted editorial expert and advocate for content quality throughout the product lifecycle.
- Facilitate effective communication among authors, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
- Partner with Project Managers before project kickoff to define content delivery timelines, clarify key milestones, and align expectations for handoffs and dependencies.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best practices across content development.
What We're Looking For
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience in editorial development, content development, educational publishing, curriculum development, or instructional design at the K-12 or HE levels.
- Proven experience managing authors, contributors, and subject matter experts.
- Strong developmental editing and editorial review skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, including schedules and competing priorities.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing digital learning products, assessments, and instructional resources.
- Familiarity with inclusive content practices and accessibility requirements.
- Experience using project-management platforms such as Smartsheet or similar tools.
- Knowledge of learning science, assessment design, curriculum alignment, and educational standards.
- Experience incorporating AI tools into content development workflows.
