Job Description SummaryThe engineering manager leads a global team, driving innovative solutions for energy storage initiatives, ensuring successful New Product Introduction (NPI) and product lifecycle support for multi-generation product plans as part of the Energy Storage Center of Excellence. The manager will own the technical implementation of mechanical, electrical, and thermal design of energy storage products as well as incorporating third party designs into solutions. The manager will drive boundaryless coordination with product leadership, product assurance, fleet reliability, and power conversion with a one team mindset to ensure proper system integration with power conversion systems and customer equipment. The manager will establish best practices, standard lean processes to improve quality, while accelerating execution and strengthening field support.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Manage the global Energy Storage engineering team focused on the design and development of energy storage products.
• Collaborate with Application Engineering, Product Engineering, and Product Leadership on product and technology roadmap development to maintain industry leadership.
• Manage the engineering team through the New Product Introduction (NPI) process, including tollgate reviews with business leadership.
• Collaborate with Energy Storage Controls Engineering Manager driving clear system level requirements through early engagement with controls.
• Direct and coordinate detailed engineering activities to achieve critical product KPIs including Quality and On-Time Delivery while supporting the GE Vernona Power Conversion & Storage business strategy.
• Ensure seamless handoffs to manufacturing with early coordination and providing support through manufacturing process ensuring lessons learned are captured and addressed with urgency into processes and future product requirements.
• Drive clear documentation of products and parts into an accepted change-controlled system with appropriate change management ensuring traceable, controlled product lifecycle management.
• Evaluate products to determine make vs. buy decisions ensuring solutions are bringing value.
• Partner with supply chain, sourcing, and procurement to develop functional specifications for sourced parts and components.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technology, and regulatory changes to ensure products stay competitive from a cost and technology standpoint.
• Ensure quality through efficient Verification and Validation methods.
• Partner with field services and commissioning teams to pass knowledge and training ahead of installations.
• Support project team not only on first piece qualification and NPI field validation but also in field issues and customer requests as needed.
• Support project execution from concept through commissioning, including troubleshooting and performance optimization.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support root cause analysis.
• Track and communicate lifecycle metrics, team performance, and business impact to leadership

Required Qualifications

• For roles outside of the USA- This role requires significant experience in the Engineering/Technology & Design Engineering Management. Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering, product development or similar disciplines within the energy sector.
• Experience with utility-scale energy storage projects.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
