Title: Staff DevOps Engineer
Location: Chennai, India
Department: Horizontal Engineering / xOps
Job Purpose
We are looking for a senior DevOps engineer to support a variety of internal company products and engineering divisions. This role is located on a central team and requires quick thinking, the ability to move between different systems, and work with multiple levels of staff inside the company. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical and project leadership, interfacing with software engineering groups, and promoting a positive and inclusive work environment. The candidate is also expected to strike a balance between Indian and US time zones to ensure the ability to attend meetings with business stakeholders, address production issues, and serve as an escalation point.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop new and enhance current shared public cloud services with consideration for Availability, Operations, Performance, Capacity, Security, and User Experience
- Provide input and expertise relating to cloud hosting solutions (full infrastructure design and management)
- Attend and provide input on product planning sessions with internal development teams
- Transform requirements into operational designs
- Identify and implement automation solutions
- Develop and maintain documentation including but not limited to architecture diagrams, service descriptions, build and deploy documentation and operations run book documentation
- Provide technical escalation and mentoring to other team members
- Where applicable, train operations team to provide Level 1/2 support for shared public cloud services, act as Level 3 escalation point
- Manage AWS/Azure best practice expectations and corporate standards
- Work with a global team and are able to meet or perform tasks off-hours
Required Skills:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field; OR equivalent experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT operations, including knowledge of networking, computing and storage
Minimum of 3 years of experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud computing environments, with at least 1 year of architect/design role responsibility
Windows and Linux deployment experience, including common services for each platform
Proficiency in at least one scripting language, preferably Python or Powershell/.NET
Proficiency in utilizing Git as a source control system
Application operations, including Incident Management, Change Management, and Capacity Management
Excellent written and verbal communication, with customer service skills
Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
Strong desire to learn new things independently
Knowledge of security best practices
Desired Skills:
7+ years of experience in IT
3+ years of experience with AWS
3+ years of experience with Microsoft Azure
Experience in working in a regulatory change control environment highly preferred
Experience developing and deploying automation tooling
Experience supporting and integrating development tooling, including Jira, Git, Jenkins and Azure DevOps
Experience with Kubernetes deployment and operation
Experience with Operations tools, including Jira Service Management and Observability & Monitoring platforms
Experience with Software Development Life Cycle / Agile processes
Experience with AI/ML analysis tools an asset
