Department

You will be part of Manufacturing Operation-India, Global Supply Chain, Cement who supports Capital and Service Product line for Materials, Warehouse & Logistics. By joining this team, you will have the chance to work in an international environment involving different cultures and different challenges. This department works closely with both our internal and external customers to ensure FLSmidth cement equipment’s on time delivery and customer satisfaction. You will be located in the Arakkonam plant.

Role

As Category Buyer, you will be required to develop “global as well as regional” reliable, cost effective and quality vendors in very important category of Fabrication to support the business. This effort will also lead to improvement in customer satisfaction via improved DIFOT and quality of the offerings.

Your Responsibilities

  • Purchasing based on specifications and according to predefined procedures and processes to ensure delivery capability.
  • Purchases products/items of expertise area at the right quality, characteristics, and volume.
  • Participates in the selection of suppliers by analysis, evaluation, and handles operational relations and interfaces with selected suppliers.
  • Establish strong relationships with key suppliers, improve the overall supplier relationship management.
  • Leading supplier performance recovery & improvement activities.
  • Managing the whole contract negotiations with the suppliers and coordinating the supplier, Legal department and related technical units to complete purchasing process.
  • Performing the control of payments to suppliers at the right time and working coordinately with the Finance and Accounting Department.
  • Following up the logistics to maintain the delivery of the goods on time and ensuring the arrival of the orders to the factory properly.
  • Expedites Purchase Orders to ensure on time delivery, this includes physical visits to suppliers to check on progress.
  • Performs assigned analyses of market conditions and trends within the interest areas of FLSmidth as a basis for decision making
  • Monitors the market and performs analyses of market conditions in order to contribute to the overall   cost efficiency of the procurement organization
  • Secures the global spend management system is working and provides spend reporting to different parts of the procurement organization

Key Accountabilities

• Creates, coordinates and communicates Product Sourcing Plans to relevant stakeholders including Product Line Management, Global Category Managers, Operational Purchasing, Engineering, Research & Development, Sales and relevant strategic procurement entities
• Ensures Product Sourcing Strategy (Actions) are aligned with overall product strategy
• Drives Product Sourcing Strategy and ensure actions are implemented and Product Sourcing Plans updated accordingly
• Ensure that existing Product Sourcing Plans are reviewed within the agreed period
• Promotes a culture of personal and team safety, including others who may be affected by the company’s operational activities

What you bring

  • Experience in the fields of technical purchasing and expediting.
  • Solid commercial and financial understanding.
  • Understanding of technical specification & drawings in purchase orders.
  • Planning and Organizing
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Expert in MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Hands-on experience with ERP-systems
  • Fair idea of basic commercial and financial understanding – desirable
  • Good knowledge of P2P - Procure to Pay process flow - desirable.

Education Qualification

Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business administration, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification is a plus.

10-15 years’ experience in Procurement
