Role: Vice President – Technology Operations, India

Location: Chennai or Delhi NCR (Hybrid)

Role Overview

Alight is seeking a senior technology executive to lead all technology operations in India. This leader will have end to end accountability for India based technology colleagues and operations, including engineering, IT operations, and security, overseeing a workforce of 1000+ technology professionals across the country.

This role is central to the company’s ability to scale, modernize, and deliver reliably. The leader serves as the single point of accountability for India technology execution, operating in close partnership with global technology leadership and business stakeholders. The leader will balance local operational ownership with enterprise technology priorities ensuring engineering excellence, talent health, compliance, and scale.

This is a highly visible role requiring strong people leadership, operational rigor, and the ability to operate effectively in a global, matrixed environment.

Key Responsibilities

India Technology Leadership & Operations

  • Own overall health, performance, and scalability of technology operations in India.

  • Lead and manage a large, multi‑disciplinary workforce including engineering, IT operations, and security.

  • Ensure operational stability, delivery predictability, and execution discipline across all India‑based technology teams.

  • Primary escalation point for India specific operational, people, and risk issues.

Global Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Operate as a core member of the Global Technology Leadership Team.

  • Partner closely with global product, engineering, operations, and security leaders.

  • Communicate clearly and credibly with executive leadership on performance, risks, and outcomes.

  • Enable effective matrix collaboration without diluting accountability.

Execution Accountability

  • Translate global technology priorities into clear, executable plans for India teams.

  • Drive delivery rigor across engineering and operations (planning, estimation, quality, and accountability).

  • Surface risks, trade‑offs, and capacity constraints early; drive timely resolution.

  • Embed AI-driven insights and automation into delivery processes to improve speed, quality, and predictability.

  • Ensure consistency in engineering and operational practices while enabling speed and innovation.

AI & Intelligent Automation Leadership

  • Own enterprise adoption of AI/GenAI across engineering, operations, and delivery in India.

  • Embed AI into SDLC and IT operations to materially improve productivity, quality, and speed.

  • Partner with global leaders to scale AI-powered capabilities in client-facing products and internal workflows.

  • Build and govern AI capabilities (platforms, talent, responsible AI) while delivering measurable impact on cost, efficiency, and cycle time.

IT Operations & Security

  • Oversee India‑based IT operations including infrastructure, end‑user computing, service delivery, and reliability.

  • Ensure strong security posture in partnership with global security leadership, including compliance with local regulations.

  • Partner with global teams on incident management, resiliency, and operational maturity.

People, Talent & Culture

  • Build, lead, and retain a strong senior leadership bench in India.

  • Drive consistent performance management, talent development, and succession planning.

  • Ensure a strong, inclusive culture aligned to enterprise values and operating standards.

  • Partner closely with HR on hiring strategy, workforce planning, compensation alignment, and retention.

This role will be judged on throughput, quality, and predictability. Success in this role will be measured by: 

  • Improved delivery predictability and engineering throughput

  • Reduction in production incidents and faster recovery times

  • Successful scaling of India technology teams aligned to business growth

  • Strong talent outcomes, including leadership bench strength and retention

  • Measurable cost and productivity improvements - supported by AI adoption

 Qualifications & Experience

  • 20+ years of technology leadership experience, including senior roles managing large, complex organizations.

  • Proven experience leading large engineering organizations at scale.

  • Strong background in technology operations, software engineering SDLC, and execution rigor.

  • Experience operating in global, matrixed environments with senior stakeholders.

  • Deep understanding of India technology talent market and operating dynamics.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead through change, transformation, and growth.

  • Strong executive presence, judgment, and communication skills.

  • Proven track record of driving AI/GenAI adoption at scale with measurable business impact.

  • Strong working knowledge of LLMs, AI/ML platforms, and their application across SDLC, operations, and products.

  • Experience implementing responsible AI frameworks (governance, security, data privacy, risk).

  • Demonstrated ability to build and scale AI capabilities (teams, platforms, or CoEs) in enterprise environments.
