Job Description

The Workday Security Administrator is the subject matter expert for Workday security administration, operational support, and audit readiness. This role is responsible for maintaining a secure, scalable, and well-governed Workday environment by administering security roles, supporting access requests, troubleshooting complex issues, and partnering with Digital HR Technology, and audit stakeholders to ensure compliance and control effectiveness.

This position blends hands-on configuration with governance and support accountability. The ideal candidate brings strong Workday security expertise, understands how security decisions affect business processes and reporting, and can balance operational responsiveness with disciplined access controls and audit support.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary administrator for Workday security, including user-based security role assignments, role based assignments, and security-related reporting.
  • Administer and maintain Workday security access in alignment with approved governance processes, ensuring requests are reviewed, documented, and executed according to established approval requirements.
  • Configure and support security for core Workday processes across HCM and adjacent modules, ensuring the right balance of access, usability, segregation of duties, and risk control.
  • Support day-to-day operational security activities including access provisioning, access changes, issue triage, root cause analysis, and resolution of security-related incidents and defects.
  • Maintain and improve security governance artifacts including approval matrices, role definitions, configuration standards, access procedures, and audit documentation.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing evidence, validating access controls, documenting control execution, and responding to questions related to security design, approvals, and system access.
  • Perform periodic access reviews and help identify inappropriate, conflicting, or excessive access, recommending and implementing corrective actions where needed.
  • Support controlled migrations and deployments of security-related changes across environments, including coordination of temporary elevated access where required for testing and production implementation.
  • Participate in Workday releases, enhancements, and projects to assess security impacts, complete testing, and ensure changes are implemented in line with governance expectations.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to simplify security administration, strengthen controls, improve documentation, and enhance the support model.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on Workday experience with meaningful depth in Workday security administration, support, and configuration.
  • Strong understanding of Workday security architecture, including Security Administrator and Security Configurator responsibilities, security groups, domain policies, business process policies, and role-based access.
  • Experience supporting enterprise Workday environments, including access administration, issue resolution, testing, and ongoing production support.
  • Experience with audit support, access controls, approval workflows, and security governance documentation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues, perform root cause analysis, and communicate resolutions clearly to technical and functional stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a controlled environment.
  • Ability to translate business needs into secure, maintainable Workday configuration and operational processes.

Preferred

  • Experience in a large, complex, global organization with multiple Workday functional domains and regional support considerations.
  • Experience with Workday reporting in support of security reviews, audits, and compliance activities.
  • Familiarity with migration and environment management practices for security-related changes.
  • Workday certification or advanced training in HCM and/or Security.

Success Profile

  • Operates with strong judgment and a control-minded approach
  • Balances service orientation with disciplined governance
  • Communicates clearly across technical, functional, and audit audiences
  • Brings a continuous improvement mindset to support, controls, and documentation
  • Works effectively across teams and through ambiguity in a global environment
