About the role

The Commercial Advisor sits in the Commercial team, which is part of AGL’s C&I Decarbonisation and Customer Strategy (DCS) team. The DCS team in AGL’s Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Customers business unit defines and executes market growth strategies and product innovation and provides analytics
and commercial support to deliver on the vision of being the decarbonisation partner of choice for Australian businesses.
Commercial Advisors are technical leads, responsible for delivering high-quality commercial support, maximising value, and minimising risk for C&I sales activity. In addition to contracting and negotiation skills, the role requires a forward-thinking approach, a growth mindset, and the ability to quickly learn and adapt, while building trust and leading by example. A critical attribute is the ability to champion innovative solutions to unlock efficiencies, including through the use of AI technologies, to continuously evolve how we work, keep up to date with market trends and C&I customer needs, and provide best-in-practice commercial support to key stakeholders.

What You'll Be Doing
 

  • Support and eventually lead negotiations with C&I customers and suppliers to deliver optimal outcomes for AGL and our C&I customers.

  • Learn and apply commercial judgment to balance risk and reward, creating value in line with C&I strategy and growth priorities.

  • Drive continuous improvement of agreements and processes, drawing on market insights, best practice, and emerging digital and AI tools.

  • Collaborate across functions and the team to develop and implement robust, future-ready commercial terms for new products and initiatives.

  • Provide clear, solutions-focused commercial advice in partnership with Legal and other teams, including managing disputes efficiently.

  • Champion innovation and digital adoption, trialling and embedding AI or automation solutions that enhance commercial processes, efficiency, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Support other team members and stakeholders to build knowledge and foster a culture of innovation, agility, and professional growth.

  • Learn and stay across industry trends, regulatory changes, and evolving C&I customer needs to anticipate opportunities and maintain AGL’s commercial leadership.

  • Equip sales, supply chain management and cross-functional teams with insights and tools to negotiate effectively and deliver high-quality commercial outcomes.

  • Support and lead drafting, review, and execution of key agreements, tenders, and communications, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and value creation.

What You'll Bring
 

  • Tertiary qualification in law or business (preferred).

  • Expertise in contract law, with the ability to draft, interpret, and advise on commercial agreements.

  • Experience leading and supporting negotiations and managing end-to-end contract lifecycles.

  • Commercial acumen with the ability to balance risk and reward in line with strategic priorities.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and skilled in legal / commercial risk analysis.

  • Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement capability.

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
