Job Summary

The Director of Category Insights is responsible for the overall productivity and effectiveness of the sales organization, fostering close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the sales organization’s efficient operation and success. This role will be responsible for creating the strategy through category insights that allows BRCC packaged Coffee, Ready to Drink, and Energy Drink products to coexist across all channels and validate the innovation pipeline for consumer compatibility. A successful candidate will highlight a proven track record of collecting and interpretation of data to provide strategic insights that drive business growth. Utilizing insights to create the Perfect Store and ultimately long-term vision for a Store of the Future. Accountabilities include building a cross-channel go-to market strategy that enables profitable business expansion via net revenue, gross margin, market share, merchandising and distribution targets, while allowing every channel to thrive.

Job Details

Key Responsibilities:

  Performance Delivery: 

  • Collect and analyze market data, including consumer trends and competitive insights 

  • Build and execute multi-year Category Growth Vision across all revenue channels 

  • Deliver Net Revenue Growth, Margin, Distribution, and Market Share goals 

  • Define Perfect Store and shelf measurement criteria where appropriate 

Customer Development:  

  • Collect and analyze market data, including consumer trends and competitive insights 

  • Build and execute multi-year Category Growth Vision across all revenue channels  

  • Deliver Net Revenue Growth, Margin, Distribution, and Market Share goals 

  • Define Perfect Store and shelf measurement criteria where appropriate 

Sales Strategy – Foundational Planning 

  • Convert data into actionable insights that drive strategy 

  • Lead market research to understand consumer trends and preferences 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to apply insights to business plans 

Innovation – Consumer Validation: 

  • Develop learning plans to validate new and existing product concepts 

  • Expand formats and explore new product types 

  • Quantify the consumer journey to improve conversion and content strategy 

Vision – Store of the Future: 

  • Create multi-year vision plans for each retail channel 

  • Support Channel Leads in converting vision into Joint Business Plans 

  • Leverage syndicated/custom research to guide execution 

Revenue Growth Management: 

  • Build channel-specific price/pack architecture 

  • Define and manage trade budgets and architecture 

  • Track profitability at item and channel level 

Financial Acumen: 

  • Promote a culture of revenue growth and margin mix optimization 

  • Equip Sales with tools to track trade and promo spend 

  • Integrate forecasting and budgeting with the IBP process 

  • Develop and maintain sales reports and intelligence tools 

Cross-Functional Leadership: 

  • Collaborate across teams to translate customer insights into strategy 

  • Serve as the voice of the retailer within BRCC 

  • Communicate business metrics and growth roadmap to executive leaders and Board 

Talent Development: 

  • Coach and develop internal and customer-facing talent 

  • Contribute to Revenue Growth, Category, and Insight teams 

  • Drive effective org design and resource planning    

  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, and performance management 

Leading a High-Performing Team: 

  • Influence cross-functional collaboration and innovation 

  • Implement new ways to sell, merchandise, and market 

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment 

  • Foster continuous improvement and champion BRCC Core Values 

 

Education and Skill Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration or a relevant field. 

  • 10+ year career encompassing roles of increasing levels of responsibility culminating in an equivalent leadership position.   

  • Experience leading a company through a significant growth period by building sustainable and scalable internal systems and processes. 

  • Excellent negotiation and leadership skills.   

  • A big picture, strategic approach to business coupled with a tactical, hands-on style and the natural ability to showcase both qualities.   

  • A collaborative, engaging, and goal-oriented leadership style that fosters the team’s creativity while maintaining high standards and levels of accountability.   

  • Sound financial acumen with expertise in estimating, budgeting and financial planning. 

  • Ability to work across and relate to all levels of an organization internally to enhance the overall success of the company strategy, providing thought leadership beyond the development arena.  

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Physical Requirements 

This is a full-time position and may require long hours and may require weekend and nights work events. 

  • Travel Requirements: 30% 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach, stoop kneel to install computer equipment. 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work. 

  • Light to moderate lifting is required. 

  • Ability to uphold the stress of traveling. 

  • Regular, predictable attendance is required; including quarter-driven hours as business demands dictate. 

  • Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic). 

  • Ability to work in a confined area. 

  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
