JOB FAMILY DESCRIPTIONRoles within the Software Delivery Platform Engineering job family are responsible for ensuring that core engineering enablement platforms such as OneDev, UKDevTools, and Observability are delivered, enhanced, and operated as resilient, high‑performing, and compliant services. These roles focus on maintaining day‑to‑day operational excellence, managing incidents, monitoring platform health, and using data‑driven insights to maintain availability, capacity, and stability. Collaboration with DevOps, Infrastructure, InfoSec, vendors, and global support teams is central to maintaining strong operational outcomes and driving continuous improvement. These roles play a key part in developing consistent tooling, environments and pipelines, while continually identifying opportunities to optimise platform services.
BASIC ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT
• This role is accountable for the technical leadership, delivery, continuous improvement and operational excellence of the OneDev, UKDevTools, and Observability platforms across the UK region. It ensures these platforms operate as resilient, high‑performing, secure and fully compliant services that empower engineering teams across GT.
• Partners internally with management. Provides consultation on niche areas of the business that require in-depth analysis on multi faceted dimensions.
• Provides in-depth consultation on data analysis and makes recommendations that may impact products, services, or processes.
• Recognized as advanced individual contributor within the organization. Subject matter expert with additional experience and/or education in field.
What You'll Bring:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Technical Leadership
* Technically lead day-to-day operations of the OneDev, UKDevTools and Observability platforms deployed in the UK region ensuring high availability, performance, and resilience.
* Technically lead incident response, root cause analysis, and resolution processes.
* Oversee incident management, monitoring, and escalation processes to maintain platform stability and minimise service disruptions.
* Coordinate and participate in post-incident reviews (post-mortems/PIRs) with global and regional teams, driving the identification and implementation of corrective actions.
* Define and monitor SLAs, KPIs, and operational metrics of OneDev, UKDevTools and Observability platforms.
* Support the Software Delivery Platform Manager in producing and analysing reports on platform availability, performance, and capacity, supporting data-driven decision-making and proactive capacity planning.
* Collaborate with in region and global DevOps, Infrastructure, InfoSec and other support teams to maintain operational excellence.
* Create and maintain a capability catalogue of supported tools, services, and patterns with clear guidance on when and how to use them.
* Support the Software Delivery Platform Manager in facilitating in regular tooling vendor service review meetings, managing any escalations that need to be made into the vendor in support of tickets raised that require urgent attention.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operational processes.
* Participate in an out-of-hours support rota.
Platform Delivery Technical Leadership
* Technically lead end to end delivery of new software delivery platform capabilities, features, upgrades, and enhancements.
* Create, maintain, and own delivery plans for delivering platform initiatives, ensuring clarity of scope, timelines, milestones, dependencies, and risks.
* Coordinate cross-team delivery schedules, ensuring Software Delivery Platform roadmap items have appropriate interlocks into Product Managers/Owners and into Delivery Teams.
* Track and communicate progress against delivery plans, proactively identifying slippage and implementing corrective actions.
* Remove delivery blockers and ensure milestones are achieved on time.
* Help prioritise platform capabilities and improvements based on customer, engineering, and business needs
* Drive consistency in tooling, environments, development pipelines, and release processes.
* Work closely with Service team to support smooth transition into service of new platform capabilities through the STP process(es).
* Proactively identify opportunities to enhance existing delivery platform services by gathering user feedback, analysing bottlenecks and applying best practices, ensuring all improvements are captured and prioritised within platform backlogs.
* Intercept, triage and prepare for changes communicated by US Central Comms relating to all technologies contained within OneDev where changes will have impact to UK Delivery teams.
Communication
* Clearly articulate platform vision, principles, and technical strategy.
* Communicate architectural decisions, trade‑offs, and standards in an understandable way.
* Ensure teams understand why decisions are made, not just what is being delivered.
* Provide clear technical guidance, expectations and priorities to platform and consuming teams.
* Facilitate healthy technical discussions and decision‑making forums.
* Share roadmaps, backlog priorities, and upcoming changes with transparency.
* Organise and lead the delivery of hack days, show and tells in order to improve colleague knowledge of Software Delivery Platforms.
* Produce and deliver presentations at events such as GT All Hands & GT Showcases.
Risk, Compliance & Governance
* Lead the identification, assessment, documentation, and management of risks and issues related to Software Delivery Platforms deployed in the UK region, ensuring proactive mitigation and platform stability.
* Oversee and support compliance and audit activities for the Software Delivery Platforms deployed in the UK region, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and audit readiness.
* Collaborate with risk, compliance, and audit stakeholders to address findings, implement corrective actions, and continuously improve risk and compliance processes.
* Monitor evolving risks and regulatory changes, adapting controls and processes to maintain ongoing compliance and operational resilience.
People
* Act as a trusted technical role model within the team.
* Coach engineers to grow their technical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
* Support junior and mid‑level engineers through pairing, reviews, and knowledge sharing
* Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
* Leading the recruitment and hiring of new Team-members.
Impact You'll Make:
EXPERIENCE
* Extensive experience (10+ years) in technical leadership roles within cloud-native, containerized environments, with a proven track record of delivering complex solutions at scale.
* Demonstrated technical leadership in CI/CD pipeline management, particularly using Harness for automated build and deployment processes.
* Advanced skills in infrastructure automation with Terraform, including integration with Harness IaC pipelines.
* Experience managing secrets and sensitive data using HashiCorp Vault.
* Experience working with Artifactory for artifact management.
* Solid understanding of application security best practices, including integrating and acting on findings from CheckMarxOne or similar tools.
* Deep expertise in Kubernetes, specifically managing and supporting GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine) clusters and containers in production environments.
* Advanced proficiency with Helm, including designing, installing, and managing applications using Helm charts.
* Hands-on experience with Wiz for Cloud Native Application Protection and container security, including policy definition and incident response.
* Strong background in GCP cloud networking, load balancing, and traffic management, with the ability to architect and troubleshoot complex network topologies.
* Good understanding of Cloudflare.
* Comprehensive knowledge of GCP compute services and Google Cloud Storage (GCS) for managing both structured and unstructured data.
* Significant experience with PostgreSQL for database design, optimization, and management in high-availability environments.
* Expertise in implementing and managing Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions using Ping and/or Keycloak.
* In-depth experience with Kong APIM for API lifecycle management, security, and governance.
* Strong monitoring and observability skills, including creating and interpreting dashboard alerts from GCP Native Observability, Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
* Ability to translate high level architectural blue-prints into detailed low level designs.
* Excellent communication, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills, with a passion for developing team capabilities and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, secure, and scalable solutions aligned with business objectives.
