The Role

Mainframe Batch & Console Operations Lead at Kyndryl are key in helping revolutionize the way we operate complex computer systems. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology, supervise and control intricate networks and applications, and operate distributed systems in a multi-vendor environment.  

As a Computer Operator you will be on the technical frontline – performing batch operations as per service agreements, analyzing first-level issues across systems, and resolving/routing issues as appropriate. You will also have the opportunity to develop support system management processes specific to customer requirements, ensuring that we provide the highest level of service to our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor system consoles, WTORs, SYSLOG, and alerts

  • Execute MVS/JES2 commands for system and job control

  • Monitor and manage batch cycles using Zeke / OPC (job flows, dependencies, calendars)

  • Perform job actions: submit, hold, release, cancel, restart

  • Monitor batch delays, long-running jobs, and SLA-critical workloads

  • Execute basic JCL overrides and ad-hoc job scheduling

  • Provide L3 support for job abends and system issues

  • Perform spool management and subsystem start/stop activities

  • Follow escalation procedures for incidents and coordinate with L2/L3 teams

Who You Are

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 9+ years of experience in Mainframe Computer Operations and production support environments.

  • Strong hands-on experience with IBM z/OS, MVS, and JES2 operating environments.

  • Expertise in batch scheduling and workload management using ZEKE and/or IBM OPC/TWS scheduling tools.

  • Experience in monitoring and managing Batch job execution and recovery ,Console operations, Job queues and enqueue conditions, CPU utilization and workload performance, SLA-driven production schedules

  • Proficiency in performing JCL overrides, reruns, job restarts, and batch recovery activities.

  • Hands-on experience performing z/OS IPL activities (manual and automated).

  • Experience with HMC operations, including IPL and Stand-Alone Dump procedures.

  • Working knowledge of MVS and JES2 commands for job, task, and subsystem management.

  • Experience monitoring SYSLOG, console buffers, connectivity issues, and contention situations.

  • Experience with incident management, ticketing systems, escalation processes, and production support workflows.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-resolution skills in high-pressure production environments.

  • Ability to work in a 24x7 rotational support model and handle critical production incidents independently.

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

  • Exposure to CICS, DB2, and related subsystem monitoring and operational support.

  • Experience supporting Disaster Recovery (DR) exercises, business continuity testing, and recovery operations.

  • Hands-on experience with Endevor deployment and change-management activities.

  • Experience monitoring and supporting IBM TS7700 Virtual Tape Storage environments.

  • Knowledge of SMF reporting, system performance analysis, and operational reporting.

  • Familiarity with storage operations, virtual tape management, and tape recovery processes.

  • Exposure to automation tools and enterprise monitoring platforms used in large-scale mainframe environments.

  • Working knowledge of enterprise production control and workload automation best practices.

  • Knowledge of ITIL-based incident, problem, and change management processes.
