Procurement Manager – Arakkonam is a key leadership role, responsible for driving the procurement execution, continuously improving resource efficiency and ensuring implementation of global procurement strategies and best practice way of working. The Procurement Manager will work closely with the Plant Head and production team.

Your responsibilities
You will be part of the Manufacturing procurement Team, who ensures purchasing the right goods in right time from the right vendors with the full obligation of the local and country's law, policies and abiding the best practices with terms and conditions,, saves money by actively working to improve cost reduction activities, and reduces the risks associated with delays in the supply chain and dedicated to implementing sustainable solutions for our customers.

Team Development & Succession Planning

  • Plan and execute the training of team members/resources to achieve the departmental objectives and people development

  • Develop team to build the organization and succession planning for every critical role

  • Lead and direct the Purchasing employees, coach and develop the team, prioritize activities and review performance.

  • Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in the procurement of parts and material.

  • Assign procurement requests to the appropriate personnel.

  • Oversee all activities related to procurement of a commodity, from intent to purchase through delivery of commodity.

  • Manage Procurement Department budget.

  • Develop sourcing strategies and objectives to meet business and organizational goals.

  • Aggressively develop and implement cost reduction strategies.

  • Responsible for overall supplier performance related to quality, cost and delivery.

  • Resolve supplier problems.

  • Act as liaison between Engineering, Quality and Suppliers.

  • Develop and implement purchasing, expediting and logistics systems and procedures.

  • Develop and implement project tracking report focused on new product sourcing, delivery performance and analysis.

  • Organize, supervise, and direct the work of storeroom and central supply personnel engaged in receiving, issuing, and delivering supplies and equipment.

  • Analyze market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports.

  • Develop a system to evaluate vendor quotations that utilizes appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery, and service.

  • Prepare and issues purchase orders and change notices.

  • Prepare and review contracts, bids, proposals, and vendor agreements for legal correctness, price, and acceptability of items to specifications.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Examine and analyze departmental Purchase Requisitions for completeness and accuracy of information.

  • Understanding Engineering Drawings & Technical Specifications

  • Sending inquires to Global Vendors and follow-up to receive offers on time.

  • Validating Supplier quotes in line with Purchase Requisition/Requirement

  • Commercial and Technical knowledge in Vendor offer evaluations.

  • Effective Negotiation, Finalization and cost optimization.

  • Vendor selection and order placement through Oracle/EPICOR/ATLAS.

  • Expedite and get order acknowledgement & goods on time from vendors.

  • Effective planning and execution of the customer order within budget cost and within Customer P.O. delivery date.

  • Effective handling of customer complaints if any, after dispatch/Installation.

  • Meet Team and Individual Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

What you bring

  • Minimum 8 plus years of relevant experience as a Purchaser / buyer 

  • Knowledge of Purchasing practices and procedures.

  • Should have Good Oral and written communication skills in English.

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

  • Good planning and organizing skills.

  • Knowledge of Cement & Mining plant Equipment & Spare Parts.

  • Knowledge in MS-Excel/ Word, Outlook proficiency is essential.

  • Knowledge in ERP / Oracle / Atlas system will be an added advantage.

  • Knowledge in Share point / Power BI will be an added advantage.

  • Knowledge in electrical items will be an added advantage.
