Role Summary
Staples is seeking an Analytics Engineer to support the Asset Protection, Inventory Control & Claims teams through the development and maintenance of business intelligence, reporting, and data solutions. This role plays a critical part in helping the organization understand, monitor, and reduce cargo loss and shrink across the supply chain by transforming operational data into actionable insights.
The Analytics Engineer will work with data related to shipments, deliveries, claims, transportation activity, inventory movement, carrier performance, exception events, and loss investigations. By leveraging Snowflake, SQL, Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, and Python, this individual will develop dashboards, automate data processes, and create analytical solutions that help identify trends, uncover root causes of losses, measure operational performance, and support the claims recovery process.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to work across large and complex datasets. While the role will primarily support Asset Protection Inventory Control initiatives, it also provides an opportunity to gain exposure to broader cybersecurity, risk, fraud, and asset protection analytics functions as the organization continues to expand its analytics capabilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Business Intelligence & Reporting
• Develop, maintain, and enhance Tableau dashboards supporting Asset Protection operations.
• Create intuitive and actionable visualizations that enable stakeholders to monitor key performance metrics and identify trends.
• Support ad hoc reporting and analytical requests from business and technical partners.
• Validate reporting accuracy and investigate discrepancies when identified.
Data Engineering & Analytics Development
• Design and maintain SQL-based analytical datasets within Snowflake.
• Develop and support Alteryx workflows to automate data preparation, transformation, and reporting processes.
• Create and enhance data pipelines that support operational and strategic reporting initiatives.
• Collaborate with engineering and analytics teams to improve data accessibility and reporting performance.
Data Quality & Operational Support
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data quality and reporting issues.
• Assist in testing and validating new analytics solutions before deployment.
• Document business logic, data sources, workflow designs, and reporting processes.
• Recommend opportunities for process automation and reporting improvements.
Collaboration
• Work closely with senior analytics and engineering resources to deliver scalable and maintainable analytics solutions.
• Participate in project planning, requirements reviews, and solution design discussions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across reporting and analytics platforms.
Requirements
Years of Experience
4-7 years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, data engineering, or a related field.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• 4-7 years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, data engineering, or a related field.
• Strong SQL development experience.
• Experience working with Snowflake or comparable cloud data warehouse technologies.
• Experience developing dashboards using Tableau.
• Experience creating and maintaining Alteryx workflows.
• Understanding of data modeling, data transformation, and reporting best practices.
• Experience troubleshooting data quality and reporting issues.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience using Python for data analysis, automation, or workflow development.
• Experience working with e-commerce, logistics, supply chain, cargo loss, claims, fraud, risk management, or asset protection data.
• Understanding of KPI development and operational reporting.
• Experience integrating data from APIs and third-party systems.
• Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies
