Role Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer (DBA) with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) and PostgreSQL to join our global Database Engineering team. In this role, you will design, build, and support highly available, scalable, and secure database platforms. You will focus on performance optimization, automation, capacity planning, and engineering initiatives that enhance reliability, security, and efficiency across our database estate. Experience with additional database technologies (MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, etc.) is a strong advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Database Engineering & Administration:
- Design, configure, and maintain MSSQL and PostgreSQL databases ensuring high availability, scalability, and reliability.
- Analyze workloads, identify bottlenecks, and optimize queries, indexes, and schema for peak performance.
- Develop automation for routine operations such as backups, deployments, patching, and monitoring using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar tools.
- Implement and support HA and DR solutions (Always On AGs, Log Shipping, Replication for MSSQL; Streaming Replication, Failover Manager, Backup/Restore strategies for PostgreSQL).
- Ensure database environments follow security best practices, patching policies, and regulatory compliance standards.
- Work closely with application teams, DevOps, cloud, and infrastructure groups to deliver robust database solutions supporting business needs.
- Contribute to strategic engineering initiatives such as cloud migrations, database modernization, standardization, and tooling improvements.

- • Experience:
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in administering and engineering MSSQL and PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
- • Core Expertise:
- MSSQL: Always On, performance tuning, indexing, backups/restore, query optimization, security, and automation.
- PostgreSQL: Replication, tuning, logical/physical backups, extensions, schema design, and performance optimization.
- • Secondary Databases (Preferred):
- Experience or exposure to MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, or other database technologies.
- • Technical Skills:
- Strong SQL and query optimization skills.
- Proficiency with Windows and Linux environments.
- Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, SolarWinds, DataDog).
- • Problem Solving:
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- • Collaboration:
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a global, cross-functional team.
