Position Summary: We are looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (Linux Expert) to join our Cloud Infrastructure Engineering division in Chennai. Cloud Infrastructure Engineering ensures the continuous availability of the technologies and systems that are the foundation of athenahealth’s solutions. We are directly responsible for thousands of servers, petabytes of storage, and handling thousands of web requests per second, all while sustaining growth at a meteoric rate. We enable an operating system for the medical office that abstracts away administrative complexity, leaving doctors free to practice medicine.
The Team: We are a bunch of Site Reliability Engineers who are passionate about reliability, automation, and scalability. We use an agile based framework to execute our work, ensuring we are always focused on the most important and impactful needs of the business. We support systems in both private and public cloud and make data-driven decisions for which one best suit the needs of the business. We are relentless in automating away manual, repetitive work so we can focus on projects that help move the business forward.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and support Linux-based on-prem infrastructure, including physical and virtual environments
- Apply resilience engineering principles to ensure system stability, scalability, and security
- Develop automated solutions to reduce manual effort and improve system reliability
- Design and implement services aligned with Infrastructure-as-Code practices
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues
- Monitor system performance and drive visibility through telemetry and observability tools
Qualifications
- 5–9 years of experience in infrastructure administration and SRE roles
- Strong hands-on expertise in Linux systems — build, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Experience managing on-premise infrastructure (physical and virtual)
- Familiarity with configuration management tools like Puppet
- Experience with scripting or Programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, Ruby, Ansible)
- Exposure to Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform preferred)
- Understanding of SRE and DevOps principles
- Familiarity with monitoring and visualization tools
- AWS knowledge is a plus, but not mandatory
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
